LEADING ENVIRONMENTAL & DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION, WRI,
IS AS GREEN AS THEY COME
But what truly excites us about this NGO is that they recognize that its own actions are the best reflection of the changes they want to see in the world. Hosting sustainable events is just one way to “walk the talk”. They've developed a 6-page policy on how to put on eco- and animal-friendly functions: from distributing materials at a conference (electronically vs. printed) to what kind of cutlery to use (reusable being the preferred option).
As for the food part of the equation, they say to keep it plant-based and cite a number of astounding statistics and arguments on the environmental impact of animal agriculture. Here's just one for thought -
- The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization estimated the world’s livestock population contributes 18% of global human-derived emissions annuals, while agricultural lifecycle assessments have estimated as high as 51% of global emissions due to livestock when indirect emissions are included.
